The Best Time to Visit Malta: A Month-by-Month Guide

Malta is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on what you want: hot beach days, calm sightseeing, or shoulder-season value. Here’s how the year breaks down.
Spring (April–June)
Arguably the best months. Wildflowers, comfortable temperatures (18–28°C) and a sea that’s swimmable from late May. Ideal for combining sightseeing with the first swims — think a Valletta walking tour in the morning and a beach in the afternoon.
Summer (July–August)
Hot (30°C+), dry and busy. The sea is at its warmest, which is why the Blue Lagoon is unmissable now — just go early.
Autumn (September–October)
Many travellers’ favourite window: the sea stays warm into October, prices ease and the crowds thin. Excellent for day trips to Gozo and Comino.
Winter (November–March)
Mild (15°C average) and quiet. Swimming is for the hardy, but it’s perfect for culture, hiking and food — and the best cultural experiences have no queues at all.
Quick recommendation
For the best all-round trip, aim for late May to mid-June or September: warm enough to swim, calm enough to explore.
